Welcome to Homestead Hustle & Healing

β€œYou gotta make a change. Its time for us as a people to start making some changes, lets change the way we eat, lets change the way we live, and lets change the way we treat each other. You see the old way wasn't working so its on us, to do what we gotta do to survive.”

Tupac Shakur

Hi, I'm Vanessa. I'm on a mission to take back the block.

Hi, my name is Vanessa and I am the founder of Homestead Hustle & Healing. I’m on a mission to end food insecurity in underserved minority communities in Montgomery County, MD.

My approach is a little different from others. 😬

See, I believe that in order to empower our people to advocate on behalf of their communities, we need to make sure that their basic needs are taken care of. Advocacy cannot be addressed until there is food in the fridge and money in our pockets. I also believe that I can’t teach you to advocate for the block until I teach you to advocate for your household.

I teach gardening as a means to reclaim self-sufficiency through improving our health and putting money back in our pockets. Growing your own food and understanding the racial disparities in our food system is the key to making real lasting change in our community.
